Grand Junction – On Wednesday, October 28, 2009, the Grand Junction Housing Authority will hold its 2009 Housing America Poster Gallery event at Linden Pointe, 1975 Barcelona Way, Grand Junction, CO.
Colorado NAHRO, in conjunction with National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) Housing America Campaign, sponsored its annual 2009 Poster Contest for youth and children of CONAHRO member agencies, in one of three age group categories. This annual poster contest required contestants to draw a poster of "What Home Means to Me" and submit an essay describing the poster.
Posters were received from throughout the state and reviewed by a committee of Board members. Each of the submittals conveyed the children’s unique life experiences, images, drawings and design, as well as telling their story in their own words. Judging was based on age appropriate artistic skills and completeness of essay.
Colorado NAHRO selected Grand Junction resident, Samantha Crouch, 16, as the winner in the High School Category. “The Grand Junction Housing Authority is very proud of Samantha and deeply appreciates her willingness to share her creativity and story with Colorado and the nation”. – Jody M. Kole, Executive Director, Grand Junction Housing Authority.
Samantha received a $100 US Savings Bond from Colorado NAHRO and Wednesday, Samantha and her family are being congratulated by the Grand Junction Housing Authority Board and Staff along with other poster contest participants. More significantly, Samantha’s winning poster was forwarded to NAHRO for the national poster competition.
A grand prize was awarded to the best overall poster. Twelve posters were selected and posted in the U.S. Senate office for viewing, as well as for publication in the 2010 NAHRO's calendar. Although, Samantha’s poster was not selected at the National level the honor of being selected to compete at that level is exciting.
