Portability of the Housing Choice Voucher
(also called Section 8 Voucher)
You may take your voucher and transfer to any city in the United States which has a Housing Authority that administers a Section 8 program as long as :
- You are not in your first year of the term of your lease, and
- You have not violated the Family Obligations listed on the voucher, and
- You do not owe the GJHA or another Housing Authority money, and
- The family has not moved under portability within the previous 12-month period.
The GJHA will accept families with a valid Housing Choice Voucher from another Housing Authority; the GJHA will not absorb incoming portables.
