Why is there a Wait List?
If the Grand Junction Housing Authority is unable to provide you with immediate housing assistance, the Housing Authority must put your name on a waiting list until we have a housing unit or funds to assist you. The Wait List is used to prioritize the people on it to determine who gets served first as assistance comes available.
How does one get added to the Wait List

How long does it take?
The application takes a few to several minutes to fill out. With the limited resources the Housing Authority has, it may take from 90 days to 18 months for assistance to become available. Wait List ranking is subject to change daily depending upon the priority level of new applicants.
How it works
Once you're placed on the waiting list, names are selected as housing or housing assistance becomes available using the selection criteria below.
Wait List applicants will be selected in the following order:
- Elderly/Disabled/Working Families w/dependent children living or working in Grand Junction Urban Growth Area.
- Elderly/Disabled/Working Families w/dependent children living in Mesa County.
- Non-Working Families w/dependent children living in Grand Junction and Urban Growth Area.
- Non-Working Families w/dependent children living in Mesa County.
- Working Families without dependent children living in Grand Junction and Urban Growth Area.
- Working Families without dependent children living in Mesa County.
- Non-Working Families without dependent children living in Grand Junction and Urban Growth Area.
- Non-working Families without dependent children living in Mesa County.
- Working Singles living in Grand Junction and Urban Growth Area.
- Working Singles living in Mesa County.
- Non-Working Singles living in Grand Junction and Urban Growth Area.
- Non-Working Singles living in Mesa County.
- Out-of- County Applicants.
- Applicants Living in Subsidized Housing.
- Date and Time (it two family's ranking preferences are equal, date and time will determine placement).
After the preliminary eligibility determination has been made, applicants are placed on the appropriate waiting list by date and time.
The GJHA will periodically update and remove names from the waiting list to ensure that it is current and accurate. The method GJHA will use is via mail to the applicant's last known address, requesting information regarding their continued interest in maintaining a place on the waiting list.
Changes in Your Information
Applicants are advised that they are responsible to update their application in writing if they have any changes to their address, household information or ranking preference. If the applicant does not notify the GJHA of a move as required, the GJHA is not responsible for the applicant's failure to receive mail regarding housing. Any letters requesting information from applicants will include 10-day deadlines by which applicants must contact the GJHA by mail or in person, of their continued interest. If the GJHA fails to receive a response from the applicant by the deadline date or the mail is returned to this agency by the Post office, the applicant's name will be removed from the waiting list.
